The bay is a climate, not a backdrop
Clear Lake City, El Lago, Seabrook, and Kemah sit in salt-laden humidity. Hardware that lasts four years in The Woodlands lasts two here. Caliper slides, battery cables, ground straps, trailer plugs, and exhaust flanges are the usual casualties.
The NASA Parkway pattern
Morning cold start, short hop to JSC or UHCL, eight hours of heat-soak, then I-45 or 146 home. Batteries sulfate. A/C static pressure climbs. Oil that ‘still looks clean’ is past its additive life because of short trips.
What we inspect on every Clear Lake visit
Battery terminals and grounds, caliper slides, pad thickness both axles, coolant condition, A/C vent temp when it is hot enough to matter, and any stored codes — even if the light is off. That inspection is part of the job, not an upsell menu.
What you can do between visits
Rinse the underbody after beach or boat ramps. Keep a battery tender on cars that sit. Run the A/C weekly in winter so seals do not dry. Do not ignore a slow crank in August.
